nutpods French Vanilla Dairy-Free Creamer

What is the Healthiest Creamer For Coffee?

The Nutpods Original, Unsweetened Dairy-Free Creamer  made from almond and coconuts if you’re looking for sheer health benefits as it’s among the very best dairy free coffee creamers out there!

But if by ‘healthy’ you mean a coffee creamer that won’t add inches to your waistline then your best bet would be the Walden Farms Calorie-Free Coffee Creamer .

Nonetheless, the Nutpods coffee creamer  would be my pick when it comes to healthy creamers.

That’s because it contains coconut and almond milk (it’s dairy-free) and these two might prove to be great for your health, according to researchers:

  • Coconut milk – Studies suggest that coconut milk can have a positive impact on HDL (good) cholesterol, while also lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol (1).
  • Almond milk – Relevant research shows that almond milk (silk) is very low on calories, while also providing plenty of Vitamin A and Calcium, plus decent amounts of dietary fiber (2).

Is Powdered Coffee Creamer Bad For You?

No, if you follow the directions on the label and if you’re using a quality creamer i.e. without any trans fats, corn syrup etc.

That’s because such ingredients can have a potentially detrimental impact on your health – here’s why:

  • Trans fats – According to researchers, trans fatty acids may lead to a number of health issues such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, childhood allergies etc. (3).
  • High fructose corn syrup – Studies reveal that high fructose corn syrup consumption might increase the risk of obesity (4).

That’s why your best bet would be to buy an all-natural coffee creamer that doesn’t have any trans fats, corn syrup or other dubious ingredients in it.

One such example would be the brilliant Laird Superfood Coffee Creamer  that is made of 100% natural ingredients only, which means it has 0 grams of trans fats and no corn syrup.

Is Coffee Creamer Bad For Weight Loss?

It can be, although that depends on your weight loss goals.

If you’re very strict about your diet and you count every calorie that enters your body, then you have to pick your coffee creamer carefully.

Basically, the dairy creamers tend to have a bit more calories than their non-dairy counterparts, so keep that in mind.

Personally, though I wouldn’t really sweat it.

Consuming an additional 20, 30 or 40 calories won’t break your diet.

If you have a daily calorie deficit of say 500 calories it shouldn’t be a deal-breaker.

Honestly, such tiny amounts of calories start to matter when you’re already lean and simply trying to get rid of the last few pounds of extra weight.

Otherwise, a bit of creamer in your cup of java won’t nullify your weight loss plan!

What is A Good Substitute For Coffee Creamer?

Here’s what you can use to give more oomph to your cup of Joe in case you run out of coffee creamer:

  • Butter
  • Ice cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Coconut milk (coconut oil works as well)
  • Almond milk (i.e. the best almond milk products)
  • Whey protein powder (this type of protein is derived from milk so it works brilliantly)

Word of Caution – Not All Creamers Labelled “Non-Dairy” Are Actually Dairy-Free!

That’s right – read the product labels carefully!

Even if some of the creamers listed under Amazon’s “Non-Dairy Coffee Creamers” category aren’t truly dairy-free.

Although they might be lactose-free, they can still contain milk derivatives.

That might be an issue for vegans or people who are super sensitive to traces of lactose.

Remember that lactose-free does NOT equal dairy-free. A coffee creamer can be lactose-free while also containing a milk derivative like Sodium Caseinate!

So my personal advice is to always read the labels, always! If you are allergic to milk or anything dairy, double-check the ingredients listed.

Even if something says boldly “Dairy-Free” on the front, make sure that it actually is.

There are even creamers with coconut oil as the main ingredient and yet they still contain Sodium Caseinate (a milk derivative).

Conclusion

So there you have it folks, the absolute best powdered coffee creamer out there currently is the Catching Ketones Keto Coffee Creamer.

Not only does it come in powdered form, but it’s also ideal for lactose sensitive people and those who follow keto diets.

And it also has a superb rating and there are plenty of very happy users out there who praise this product’s flavor.

Seriously, what’s not to like about it, really?

But we’d now like to know what YOUR favorite powdered coffee creamer is?

Do you prefer traditional creamers or are you more into the more sophisticated, health-conscious products?

  1. I’ve worked in retail and food retail. I can tell you for a fact that the FDA allows terms like “sugar free”, “fat free”, “no salt”, “dairy free” to be used when the product contains LESS than 5% of the ingredients that the manufacturer claim are not in the product.

So, when you are seeing something like “dairy free”, it’s a lie, unless it states that it is vegan, or all plant based. Anything else will have dairy in it, even if it’s just a “negligable” bit.

    1. Hi there Chester,

You have a point – going for plant-based products is the only for people with lactose intolerance to be 100% certain that they’re getting a product that’s absolutely dairy-free.

Other than that it’s a matter of negligible the amount of dairy is in particular coffee creamer.

      Cheers and God bless,

      — Simon

  2. My favorite non-dairy coffee creamer is the exact one you suggested as best: Nestle Coffee-mate powdered! Definitely best price, best taste & low in calories 👏

    1. Hey there Linda!

Glad to hear that you like our top pick best.

Indeed, it’s hard to beat the Nestle Coffee-mate in terms of value for money.

However, this powdered creamer is not dairy-free! On the other hand, The Catching Ketones Keto creamer is free of dairy and lactose.

That’s one of the aspects that makes it our overall top pick.

      Cheers and God bless,

      — Simon

  3. Coffeemate does taste great BUT the powdered ones have trans-fat! If you will notice, trans-fats are left off on the package’s nutrition info. The second ingredient is HYDROGENATED vegetable oil (after the dubious first ingredient, corn syrup solids.) They just are not required to report the trans-fats because, in the minuscule serving size of 2 gm (1 tsp), it has less than 1 gm of trans-fat. So in other words, it would have to be 50% trans-fat in that serving size for them to have to disclose it. Also of note, the “fat-free” version also has hydrogenated vegetable oil as the second ingredient. Wondering how they made vegetable oil fat free? They didn’t! If you make your “serving size” sufficiently small, you can sneak in whatever you want! There’s a class-action lawsuit, in fact, over these hidden trans-fats in Nestle’s products.

    1. Hello there Niki!

That’s some truly valuable information that you’ve provided here – thanks for sharing it.

Indeed, trans fats and hydrogenated oils are definitely not among what we considered healthy fats and it’s best to avoid them.

However, as you pointed it – the amount per serving of the aforementioned fats isn’t significant in any shape or form. It’s not recommended to overdose on coffee creamers anyway so you probably have to reconsider your nutritional habits if you’re using more than a single serving per cup of Joe.

Other than that, if you don’t want to consume any trans fats, hydrogenated oils etc. at all, then our advice is to get an organic coffee creamer.

      Cheers and God bless,

      — Simon
