I’ve worked in retail and food retail. I can tell you for a fact that the FDA allows terms like “sugar free”, “fat free”, “no salt”, “dairy free” to be used when the product contains LESS than 5% of the ingredients that the manufacturer claim are not in the product.
So, when you are seeing something like “dairy free”, it’s a lie, unless it states that it is vegan, or all plant based. Anything else will have dairy in it, even if it’s just a “negligable” bit.

Coffeemate does taste great BUT the powdered ones have trans-fat! If you will notice, trans-fats are left off on the package’s nutrition info. The second ingredient is HYDROGENATED vegetable oil (after the dubious first ingredient, corn syrup solids.) They just are not required to report the trans-fats because, in the minuscule serving size of 2 gm (1 tsp), it has less than 1 gm of trans-fat. So in other words, it would have to be 50% trans-fat in that serving size for them to have to disclose it. Also of note, the “fat-free” version also has hydrogenated vegetable oil as the second ingredient. Wondering how they made vegetable oil fat free? They didn’t! If you make your “serving size” sufficiently small, you can sneak in whatever you want! There’s a class-action lawsuit, in fact, over these hidden trans-fats in Nestle’s products.
