According to the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), the ideal water temperature for brewing coffee is between 195 F and 205 F (90-96 C) (1). That’s quite hot indeed, although still below boiling point and yes, there are coffee makers that brew at 200 degrees. But apart from the proper flavor and taste extraction, to put it simply – coffee just tastes better when served hot (not reheated). So, which coffee maker makes the hottest coffee?

Touch Plus Single Serve Coffee Brewer w/...
120 Reviews
Touch Plus Single Serve Coffee Brewer w/...
  • Easy to use – simply choose the preferred cup...
  • Hotter - unlike the leading competitor, Touch...
  • Bolder - in addition to the optimum brew...

The coffee maker that brews the hottest coffee at the moment is the Touch Plus Single Serve Coffee Brewer .

This coffee brewer makes coffee at temperatures up to 200 F, which is within the optimal temperature range set by the SCAA.

Even better, this Touch unit reaches this temperature using cold water, not lukewarm or tepid water.

No other coffee machine brews the coffee at higher temperatures, meaning that the Touch Plus coffeemaker brews the hottest coffee out there.

However, this coffee machine comes with more perks than just brewing the hottest coffee.

And since you’re now probably quite interested in it, let’s take a closer look at some of its other features!

What’s So Good About the Coffee Maker that Makes the Hottest Coffee?

Well, as already mentioned Touch Plus single-serve  coffee machine brews coffee at temperatures reaching up to 200 F.

On top of that, this Touch unit utilizes a special brew cycle intended to optimize the water to coffee contact.

Both the proper temperature and the brew cycle functionality result in a cup of joe with a bold and rich taste.

Speaking of cups, the Touch single-serve brewer offers quite a bit of versatility in terms of cup sizes.

In fact, you may choose between the following cup size options:

  • 6 oz
  • 8 oz
  • 10 oz
  • 12 oz
  • 14 oz
  • 16 oz
  • 18 oz
  • 26 oz (carafe)

Obviously, this machine fits a wide variety of cups and even travel mugs, hence the various cup sizes.

But in case you have a taller mug, you can always detach the removable (and adjustable) drip tray for added convenience.

Still, a 26-oz carafe is the largest you’ll be able to fit and the good news is that this Touch unit does come with a carafe as standard.

Touch Plus Single Serve Coffee Brewer

What About That Highly Sought-After K-Cup Pods Compatibility Though?

Yes, this Touch Plus coffeemaker works with K-Cups.

This is yet another great thing about this Touch coffee brewer – it’s compatible with the most common coffee capsules/pods, such as:

  • All K-Cups
  • Touch bold
  • Xplus
  • Generic cups

There’s also an auto-off function to preserve energy (i.e. electricity) and a gargantuan removable water reservoir.

In fact, the reservoir of the Touch Plus has a massive 90-oz capacity for fewer refills.

But arguably the coolest thing about this coffee machine is the proprietary Rapid Brew system.

This system starts as soon as 20 seconds and gives you a nice cup of java in approximately a minute.

However, it’s worth pointing out that although the Touch coffee maker makes the hottest coffee, it’s not exactly cheap to buy!

Yes, even though it comes with a carafe, the Touch Plus single serve coffee machine (T526S)  isn’t all that expensive.

That’s definitely not what you’d call cheap, even if it comes with a carafe (albeit a plastic one).

Anyway, if you want a more affordable version of this coffee brewer, your best bet would be the cheaper Touch Essential T214B unit  that costs less, although you’re not getting a carafe with it.

And this brings me onto the cons of the Touch Plus coffeemaker…

Does The Touch Plus Coffee Machine Have Any Cons Though?

Of course, it does – every product has a negative side, remember?

As for the Touch Plus unit, the first thing that becomes obvious is its far-from-optimal rating.

It has a far from great overall rating and even worse ratings in terms of how easy it is to use and whether it’s good for a gift.

However – looking at some of the top-rated negative comments reveals even more potential issues with this brewer.

Based on my research we can conclude that reliability and customer support-related problems seem prevalent.

And other user-generated comments actually reinforce such claims as people seem generally unhappy with the poor customer service.

Also, the longevity of the machine itself seems to be another common issue according to people who’ve used the machine themselves.

So, to put it simply – does the Touch Plus brew hot coffee or even the hottest coffee? Yes.

Would I buy one?  No.

It has a hefty price tag and I believe that there are other, more sensible choices out there that brew coffee at optimal temperatures.

What About Hot Coffee Makers That Have Been Certified To Brew The Hottest Coffee?

There are currently over 20 home coffee brewers on SCAA’s list of certified coffee machines, all of which brew hot coffee within the optimal temp ranges – 195F – 205F (2).

Now, some of these are just models from the same manufacturer so the overall number of different brands that have been certified is less.

Sure, all of these companies have paid a certain fee to the SCAA to have their coffee makers tested.

However, the certificate is only given to machines that successfully pass SCAA’s rigorous testing.

No cheating, no shortcuts.

Remember that every coffee maker that’s been certified by SCAA brews coffee within the optimal temp range of ~200 F.

So, let’s now look at the best ones from the SCAA list of certified home brewers, based on relevant user-ratings and reviews:

Technivorm Moccamaster 59616 KBG Coffee Brewer

1. Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer (59616 KBG)

Buy from: Amazon.com
Price: $$$
User rating: Great
Works with: Ground coffee

The brilliant Technivorm Moccamaster KBG brewer sits as the highest-rated coffee machine among all SCAA certified units.

This is a handmade coffee machine that’s manufactured in the Netherlands (Europe) and it’s designed to brew coffee between 196 F and 205 F for maximum taste and flavor extraction.

All of this happens via a copper boiling element that heats the water.

There’s also a special outlet arm that has 9 holes from which the water is dispersed over the coffee grounds.

This ensures an even and optimal extraction, which is exactly what every coffee lover is after.

And this means that this Technivorm unit can brew a full carafe (10 cups) in 6 mins, giving you plenty of properly brewed coffee.

In fact, you’ll have access to a large 40-oz water tank that you can fill with cool water and start brewing.

Another great thing about the Technivorm Moccamaster KBG coffeemaker is that it’s made of BPA and phthalate-free plastics and metal housings – which is good for your health!

Last but not least, it can keep your coffee warm for up to 100 minutes (1.4 hours), thanks to the hot plate.

You can even choose between keeping your coffee hot at exactly 175 or 185 F, depending on how hot you want it to stay.

And the hot plate will automatically turn off after 100 mins pass so that it doesn’t leach electricity.

OXO BREW 9 Cup Coffee Maker

2. OXO BREW 9 Cup Coffee Maker

Buy from: Amazon.com
Price: $$
User rating: Decent
Works with: Ground coffee

Although this OXO coffee maker doesn’t have the superb rating of the Technivorm Moccamaster unit, it’s still cheaper.

Now, I should point out that the OXO unit doesn’t have an awful lot of bells and whistles (like most SCAA-certified machines).

Nonetheless, it still has a modern and neat looking digital display that definitely makes it look more stylish and contemporary.

In terms of features, you can set the brew time (up to 24 hours) and cup size (from 2 to 9 cups) by using a single dial.

The central digital screen also shows the status of the coffee machine as well as how fresh the coffee is via a freshness indicator.

Plus, the coffee will be hot for a long time trust me!

That’s because the carafe of this OXO coffee maker relies on double-wall, stainless steel construction for maximum heat insulation.

Since this is an SCAA-certified brewer, the water used for brewing is heating between 197.6F and 204.8F degrees.

The OXO 9-cup coffee also has another trick up its sleeve to ensure proper saturation of the ground coffee.

It utilizes a rainmaker-like head that disperses the hot water evenly over the coffee for the best taste.

Bonavita BV1900TS 8-Cup One-Touch Coffee Maker

3. Bonavita BV1900TS 8-Cup Coffee Maker

Buy from: Amazon.com
Price: $
User rating: Okay
Works with: Ground coffee

Honestly, brewing coffee by SCAA’s standards doesn’t get simpler than this.

The Bonavita BV1900TS machine has only one button.

You simply turn it on to start brewing and that’s all – it turns off automatically after time anyway.

The only fancy feature here is a ‘pre-fusion mode’ that’s meant to presoak fresh ground coffee to degas it and optimize flavor.

And this mode is activated by the same button, but instead of just pushing it you have to press and hold it for a few seconds.

Another cool thing about the Bonavita BV1900TS is that it’s made of BPA-free plastics.

There’s also a double-wall stainless steel thermal carafe included to help keep your coffee hot longer.

As for the brewing temperature, it’s between 195 F and 205 F.

While the wide showerhead ensures optimal saturation and extraction, which is also helped by the flat-bottom design of the filter basket.

Breville BDC450 Precision Brewer Coffee Maker

4. Breville BDC450 Coffee Maker

Buy from: Amazon.com
Price: $$
User rating: Decent
Works with: Ground coffee

The Breville BDC450 unit is all about being highly-customizable in terms of temperature and flow rates.

In fact, you can set a particular temperature, flow rate and bloom time to make a cup of coffee exactly as you like it.

This is done using one of the 6 brewing modes that this Breville coffee maker offers – the My Brew brewing option.

Actually, here’s a list of all 6 brew modes:

  • Fast
  • Gold
  • Strong
  • Over Ice
  • My Brew
  • Cold Brew

So, My Brew is the one to go for if you want to be in full control during the brewing process.

However, the Gold cup option is the preset mode based on SCAA’s Gold Cup Standard.

This means using the right water temperature range (195-205 F), proper brew time, brew-strength etc.

Another thing? This Breville unit is also able to brew as much as 12 cups (about 60 oz) of coffee.

And you may also choose the brew volume thanks to the 2 filter baskets included.

The dual filter basket design here lets you select between a cone and flat-bottom filter baskets.

BUNN HB Heat N Brew Programmable Coffee Maker

5. BUNN HB Programmable Coffee Maker

Buy from: Amazon.com
Price: $$
User rating: Decent
Works with: Ground coffee

As the name suggests, BUNN’s HB programmable coffeemaker is all about being able to program your brew time in advance.

In addition to brewing coffee that’s up to the standards of the Specialty Coffee Association of America that is.

Anyhow, you can choose to pre-set a morning start time so that you may have a hot cup of java when you wake up.

It’s worth noting that the automatic warming plate will turn on even before brewing has finished so that it’s warm already as the coffee starts pouring into the carafe.

And once the brewing process stops, the warming plate will go on to keep it hot for up to 2 hours (then it auto shuts off).

BUNN also claims that their carafe has the “cleanest pour” out there, as well as being shatter-resistant.

And it takes around 10 mins to brew a full carafe (10 cups) if you’re brewing without the programmable start function.

Apparently, it takes the BUNN HB machine 6 minutes to warm the water to the right temperature (~ 200 degrees) and 4 minutes to actually brew the coffee.

Cuisinart CPO-850 Pour Over Coffee Brewer Thermal Carafe

6. Cuisinart CPO-850 Coffee Brewer

Buy from: Amazon.com
Price: $$
User rating: Okay
Works with: Ground coffee

Cuisinart’s coffee makers are some of the best on the market and no one can deny that.

Now they also have their very own SCAA-certified unit – the CPO 850 coffee machine.

It continues the simplistic trend of coffee makers that have been certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of America.

Or in other words, the main purpose of the CPO 850 is to give you a quality cup (or cups) of coffee, everything else is an added bonus.

However, that doesn’t mean that it has been stripped of any special features.

In fact, this coffeemaker comes with the trademark Cuisinart ‘self-clean’ function and a 24-hour programmable function.

There are also several options to choose from when it comes to:

  • How strong the flavor of your coffee is going to be – mild, medium or bold
  • How hot you want your coffee to be – hot or extra hot (ouch)

Oh, you can also pour coffee mid-brew thanks to the Brew Pause feature, while the auto shut down function is there to help you preserve electricity.

And on top of that, you’re also getting a neat 8-cup thermal carafe, which is exclusive to the Cuisinart CPO-850. The CPO-800 unit gets a glass carafe only!

Behmor Connected Customizable Temperature Control Coffee Maker

7. Behmor Coffee Maker

Buy from: Amazon.com
Price: $$
User rating: Okay
Works with: Ground coffee

Remember that I told that most of the SCAA-certified coffee makers are quite straightforward and all about simply brewing great coffee?

Well, this Behmor coffee machine is far from simple as it takes things to a whole new level.

Basically, this coffee brewer comes with its own smartphone app from which you can set things like altitude, brewing temperature and even the pre-soak time!

There’s a free Behmor app that can be found in your App Store or Google Play Store (depending on your device) that connects your smartphone to your Behmor brewer!

It connects to your Behmor coffee machine via Wi-Fi signal and you’re good to go.

But you have to keep in mind that this app only works on iOS 7 (or higher) and Android 4.0 (or higher) operating systems.

After that, it’s all smooth sailing as you can not only fully customize your brew, but also save your favorite ones for next time.

The Behmor coffeemaker is also connected to the Amazon Dash Replenishment service that can automatically order more coffee grounds or beans if you run low on supplies!

Apart from the accompanying app though, this unit is also compatible with Alexa.

By using the Amazon Echo you’ll be able to give commands to your Behmor coffee machine e.g. “Alexa: Ask Behmor to start brewing my favorite coffee” etc.

All of this high-tech stuff is combined with regular coffeemaker features.

This includes a pulsed water-flow design, a pre-soak coffee grounds system and an 8-cup double-wall stainless steel carafe.

What’s The Whole Buzz About Brewing Coffee Within The Most Optimal Water Temperature Range?

If you want quality coffee with a superb taste and flavor profile, then you’d most definitely want to use the recommended brewing temperature by the SCAA.

As previously mentioned, the water temperature needs to be between 195 and 205 degrees F for the best cup of coffee.

In fact, the SCAA have even developed their own standard for the ideal cup of coffee – the Golden Cup Standard (3).

And apart from using the perfect water temperature for the brewing process, they also put an emphasis on the coffee-to-water ratio as well.

Or more specifically, SCAA states that they recommend using a ratio of 55 grams/liter (plus/minus 10% i.e. 5.5 grams).

Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Switch Coffee Maker

What Is The Best Cheap Coffee Maker Though?

The Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Coffee Maker (TF4-RB) , without a shadow of a doubt.

This thing costs virtually nothing with a ridiculously low price tag and for this money, you just can’t find a better alternative.

Now, It took me some time to dig through the various cheap coffee makers on Amazon.

Sure, there are other viable options in the $20-$25 bracket, the Mr. Coffee unit simply snatches the win, period.

Check Price on Amazon

And with a truly great overall rating, it has the best rating, especially when you weight in the overall number of reviews it has.

And at this price, you just won’t find a better coffeemaker.

But being dirt cheap doesn’t mean that the Mr. Coffee TF4-RB unit is devoid of any clever features.

Actually, you’ll probably be surprised to find out that it has an ‘auto-pause’ function!

This means that you can enjoy a cup of coffee mid-brew i.e. before the brewing process has stopped.

There’s also a removable filter basket and even a warming plate that’s also resistant to stain!

Conclusion

Sure, the Touch Plus single serve coffee maker  might brew the hottest coffee, but there are other alternatives that brew coffee just as hot.

I’m talking about an alternative such as the top-rated SCAA-certified coffee maker, the Technivorm Moccamaster coffee brewer (59616 KBG) .

Anyway, what’s your favorite brewer when it comes to the hottest coffee makers on the market?

And more importantly, why do you even care which coffee maker makes the hottest coffee?

  1. I also did my research because I don’t drink coffee unless it’s HOT! I bought the Touch and had to send it back because it would not turn on. I received a replacement and it worked like a charm with wonderful hot coffee for exactly 4 months. Absolutely no customer service from company, no help from Bed,Bath & Beyond since it has to be returned in 60 days. $200.00 for 4 months of coffee. I used Bunn coffee brewers for years and really liked the machine until they started making them in China and ruin their dependability. I’m so discouraged and have decided to go back to my roots and buy what I was raised on…a stovetop coffee pot. I know, not very sexy but I’m at the age I don’t care what other people think and I know the coffee will be HOT.

    1. Welcome aboard Kay!

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes with different coffee makers.

And hey – there’s nothing wrong with going the stovetop/Moka pot way!

Stovetop coffee makers will always be a real classic when it comes to brewing authentic, hot and flavorful java.

      Cheers and God bless,

  2. Hi Simon….
I’m always on the look-out of the next best coffee maker. Your opening discussion on the Touch intrigued me until I read the terrible reviews on Amazon.
The Technivorm has been top review for many years but shelling out $300 is something I just cant justify. A few years ago , America’s Test Kitchen did a review on coffee makers. Most of the top ones haven’t been pushed from the top since. I went with their value choice , Bonavita , and haven’t bought another since..I still have the glass lined thermal pot . I test the temp, out of the shower head, a few times a year and descale it too…It has been a workhorse ever since I bought it……keep trucking and looking and I’ll be waiting for a de-thrownig 🙂

    1. Hi Mike and welcome aboard!

There’s no doubt that Technivorm makes brilliant coffee makers, especially their Moccamaster series.

And we’ll be doing an update on this particular review – you might be surprised to find that there’s a new kid on the block as the brewer that makes the hottest coffee… or maybe not?

So make sure to stick around to find out 🙂

      Cheers and God bless,

      — Simon
